Resveratrol on 60 Minutes
Matt Anderson asked:
Resveratrol has become quite the buzz word in recent times and rightfully since it seems like it has a great deal of potential to help humans remain healthier and even younger. It seems according to 60 Minutes, that Resveratrol has the potential to achieve the same results as a calorie restriction dieting does.
There’s no question that most of us have access to just about every food we want and that’s part of the problem for the obesity epidemic that faces America today. However, it appears in the future there could be a way that one can get the affects of a calorie restricted diet just by taking a prescription Resveratrol capsule.
We already know that this red wine extract or pill has the ability to slow down even stop the signs of aging. That’s what we hear about so much. There’s been a great bit of Resveratrol research conducted that also indicates that it can be beneficial in reducing the occurrence of heart disease, cancer, and other inflammatory diseases.
Studies on mice have shown those mice that are obese and taking Resveratrol can run further than mice that are thin and not taking Resveratrol. The study showed that this nutrient that it can even the playing feel between obesity and fitness. Of course this extract still needs to be tested on humans, although we are likely to see a product on the shelves within a decade.
It was 17 years earlier that 60 Minutes had examined the French Paradox that suggested the French who had a very high wine consumption had a very low rate of heart disease compared with Americans.
Researchers agreed that something in the wine was offering that protection, and it was a few years later that Resveratrol was discovered. Scientists believe that large enough doses of this extract also stopped diseases related to aging. The irony is on the other hand we are told that moderate consumption of alcohol intake is necessary to stay healthy.
What’s the answer? A pill. If scientists confirm their findings we could all find ourselves popping a Resveratrol pill much like we pop a vitamin, and for that effort we could all see ourselves living a decade or more longer than we do now. More importantly we won’t just be living longer we’ll be living longer staying healthier.
Think of what that could do for health care. If we all remained healthier longer and avoided some of those diseases associated with old age, the health care could save a bundle.
Doctors are hoping that those diseases that begin to appear in our 50′s and later can all be stopped with a single pill, by slowing down the aging process. The quest to slow down the aging train started back in 2003.
The Resveratrol 60 Minutes report mentioned that a more potent version of Resveratrol may be designed in future and be used as a new pill for medical purposes such as diabetes or cancer. In the meantime, there is the natural version that people can use.
There is a gene in the body that when activated extends life. Research has learned that this red wine supplement can do just that. Perhaps why the French live healthier. Perhaps the fountain of youth awaits us in Resveratrol supplements or the ‘red wine pill’? At least we can hope.
